melbourne: a city with no limes

... or gin

a few topics have combined to make it worthwhile for me to finally put my thoughts online. gabi fans worldwide, you have finally got your wish.

the most pressing of these is the need to warn potential tourists of a serious deficiency with the City of Melbourne, Australia. first of all, who would have thought an entire city could sell out of gin? every bar I went to was sold out of real gin and was down to the swill that passes for well gin. secondly, gin and tonic (even well gin) is served with LIME, people!!!

melbournians note that a LEMON is not a LIME

this goes on my list of southern hemisphere oddities along with light switches that flick down for on and clockwise cyclones.

so, while australia is a wonderful place, with a great climate, friendly people and fantastic nightlife and all that, i guess us gin drinkers should adopt another cocktail for the duration of our stay.
